Triple Chocolate Cake

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Make sure to grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. This step is crucial to prevent any sticky mishaps later.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, take the time to whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. The blending of dry ingredients not only ensures an even bake but also contributes to the tremendous flavor of your cake.

  3. Next, add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract into your bowl. Mix until the batter becomes smooth and well combined. It’s perfectly normal for your batter to be a bit runny at this stage—this will help create the moistness of the cake.

  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water. This hot water step helps bring out the deep chocolate flavor, which is simply tremendous!

  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The aroma will be inviting, wrapping your kitchen in its rich scent.

  6. While the cakes are baking, prepare the ganache. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Then, pour the hot cream over the chopped dark chocolate in a bowl. Allow it to sit for a couple of minutes before stirring until melted and smooth.

  7. Once the cakes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. This resting time is important—the cakes are tremendously delicate when they first come out.

  8. When the cakes have cooled enough to handle, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Now comes the glorious assembly! Place one chocolate cake layer on a serving plate, spread a generous layer of ganache on top, and sprinkle with semi-sweet chocolate chips.

  10. Add the second layer of cake on top, and use the remaining ganache to cover the entire cake beautifully. Ensure every edge is coated for that stunning finish!
