Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter and the egg to the yeast mixture and mix well, ensuring the ingredients combine into a smooth blend.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. The dough should feel tender and not overly sticky, making it manageable to knead.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. This step is crucial for developing that tremendous texture.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). The warmth will help bake the rolls to perfection, enhancing their flavors.
  7. Punch down the dough gently to release air, then divide it into small balls about the size of a golf ball. This uniform size ensures even baking.
  8. Place the dough balls on a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each to allow for expansion during baking.
  9. Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30 minutes. This second rise is key for achieving that light, fluffy feel.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them as they bake, ensuring they don’t over-brown.
  11. Serve warm with butter for a truly delightful experience. The contrast of the warm roll and the melting butter can be tremendously satisfying.
