Southern Fried Chicken

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. This dry mixture will be the base of our tremendous seasoned coating. Be sure to stir thoroughly so every ingredient sings together in this blend.

  2. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, making sure it is well coated. This step is crucial as it creates that signature crunch we all adore. Shake off any excess flour before moving on.

  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). This temperature is vital for the frying process, achieving that golden exterior while ensuring the chicken cooks thoroughly. Take your time; ensuring the oil is at the right temperature helps prevent greasy chicken.

  4. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for about 15-20 minutes. Turn them occasionally so they brown evenly. You’ll want to monitor them closely and ensure they reach that tremendous golden hue and their juices run clear. A meat thermometer can help; the internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) to guarantee they are safe to eat.

  5. Once cooked, remove the chicken and place it on paper towels to drain off any excess oil. This not only keeps the chicken crispy but also enhances the flavor of the dish.

  6. Serve hot and enjoy the fruits of your labor. This Southern Fried Chicken is perfect for sharing, but it’s also ok to indulge alone!
