Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well using your hands until everything is fully incorporated. Form the mixture into patties, about 1-inch thick. These patties will be the foundation of your tremendous Salisbury steak.

  2. Heat a generous splash of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the patties to the skillet. Cook them until they are browned on both sides and cooked through, which should take about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Sauté them over medium heat until they become soft and translucent, which will take about 5-7 minutes. This step will create a tremendous base for your gravy.

  4. Sprinkle the flour over the soft onions and cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly to remove the raw flour flavor. This mixture will act as a thickening agent for your dish.

  5. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency. Don’t be afraid to let it bubble; this helps develop a tremendous flavor profile.

  6. Return the beef patties to the skillet. Let them simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to absorb the flavors. Once everything is heated through, your Salisbury steak is ready to be served. Enjoy it hot, with a generous amount of gravy spooned over the top.
