Paula Deen’s Banana Pudding

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cold milk and instant vanilla pudding. Whisk gently until the mixture thickens into a tremendous, creamy consistency. This will be the base flavor of your pudding, so ensure there are no lumps for a smooth finish.

  2. In a separate bowl, take the softened cream cheese and pour in the sweetened condensed milk. Beat them together until you achieve a smooth and velvety mixture. The cream cheese adds a layer of richness that complements the sweetness of the pudding wonderfully.

  3. Carefully fold the thickened pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture until it’s well combined. This step is crucial; you want the two to meld together harmoniously, creating a luxurious filling that will envelop the bananas and wafers.

  4. Now, it’s time to assemble your banana pudding. In a large serving dish, start by layering the vanilla wafers at the bottom. Follow with a layer of sliced bananas, then add a generous layer of the pudding mixture. Repeat these layers until you run out of ingredients, making sure to finish with a layer of pudding on top. This finishing layer allows for an elegant presentation.

  5. Once assembled, cover your dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. This chilling time is important; it allows the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften to the perfect texture.
