Orange Creamsicle Buttercream Icing

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. This should take about 2-3 minutes, and the butter should become smooth and fluffier. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally to ensure even mixing.

  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar to the butter. Mix on a low speed until the sugar is incorporated. This blending of the two base ingredients should yield a tremendous sturdy base for your icing. Take your time to avoid clouds of powdered sugar!

  3. Slowly add in the heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing on medium speed. This will enhance the creaminess of the icing while ensuring a tremendous flavor that will tie everything together beautifully.

  4. Pour in the orange juice and add the orange zest. Mix until the frosting is light and fluffy. Take a moment to enjoy the aromatic notes that fill the kitchen at this stage—it’s a joyous medley of citrus!

  5. If the icing is too thick, add a little more cream, a tablespoon at a time, until you achieve your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, sprinkle in more powdered sugar gradually to thicken it up. A perfect consistency is key to achieving a beautiful finish, so don’t be shy to adjust.

  6. Use the icing immediately to frost chocolate cupcakes or cake. The contrast of the vibrant orange icing on dark chocolate will create a visual and flavor masterpiece.
