Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

Directions

  1. Begin by preparing the pudding. In a large mixing bowl, combine the instant pudding mix and the cold milk. Use a whisk to mix the two until smooth. The texture should be creamy with no lumps.

  2. Once combined, set the mixture aside to rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the pudding to thicken up a bit, resulting in a tremendous filling that creates a perfect balance with the bananas and wafers.

  3. Next, take another mixing bowl and combine the sweetened condensed milk with the vanilla extract. Stir well until they’re fully mixed. The sweetness of the condensed milk adds a wonderful richness to the pudding.

  4. After mixing, it’s time to incorporate the pudding mixture into the condensed milk mixture. Pour the pudding into the bowl with the sweetened condensed milk and gently stir until the two mixtures are fully combined, resulting in a smooth and luscious filling.

  5. Now, it’s time to layer! In a serving dish, start with a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom. You can arrange them neatly or simply scatter them; both ways are delightful.

  6. Next, add a layer of sliced bananas over the wafers. The creaminess of the bananas pairs remarkably well with the filling.

  7. Pour a generous layer of the pudding mixture over the bananas, effectively embedding them in this tremendous treat.

  8. Repeat this layering process—vanilla wafers, bananas, and pudding—until you’ve used all your ingredients. Ideally, you want to end with a decedent layer of pudding on top, creating a beautiful final presentation.

  9. Once layered, cover the dish with plastic wrap or a lid and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. This will help all the flavors meld together and allow the wafers to soften, making every bite an unforgettable experience.

  10. When you’re ready to serve, feel free to top with whipped cream for an extra touch of indulgence.
