Directions
-
In a bowl, mix together the masa harina, sugar, and salt. The combination of these dry ingredients lays the foundation for that delightful texture.
-
Next, add the warm milk and melted butter. Mix until a soft, smooth dough forms. It should feel gentle and pliable in your hands, a tremendous start to your gorditas.
-
Divide the dough into small balls about the size of a golf ball. Gently flatten each into thick discs, ensuring they are evenly shaped for even cooking.
-
Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Allow it to warm up properly for even results; this is essential for achieving that perfect golden-brown crust.
-
Place the gorditas on the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side. You’ll know they’re ready when they puff slightly and develop toasted spots. The tremendous aroma will fill your kitchen during this step!
-
Remove the cooked gorditas and keep them warm in a clean cloth. Serve them hot, either plain or with a generous spread of butter, honey, or syrup. The choice is yours, and each option offers a delightful twist.
