Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×9-inch or 8×8-inch baking dish by greasing it well.
-
Open the can of lemon pie filling and pour it into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the bottom for a smooth, tangy base.
-
If you want to add a little extra brightness to your dish, sprinkle fresh lemon zest over the filling. This is an optional step, but it does add tremendous flavor.
-
Take half of the yellow cake mix and evenly scatter it over the lemon filling. This layer forms the initial binding of textures that is so satisfying.
-
Next, carefully place the cubed cream cheese over the cake mix. This will add a tremendous richness to your dessert, transforming it into a creamy delight.
-
Once the cream cheese is in place, top it off with the remaining half of the cake mix. Spread it evenly to cover the creamy layer well.
-
Lastly, arrange the thinly sliced butter over the top. This will melt and create a golden crust while baking.
-
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the top is beautifully golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
-
Once done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 15–20 minutes before serving. This cooling period allows the layers to settle and the flavors to marry.
