Heart Sprinkle Sugar Cookies

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). A preheated oven ensures that your cookies bake evenly and develop a delightful golden edge.

  2. Whisk dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. This step is crucial for ensuring that your cookies rise properly.

  3. Cream butter and sugar. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. This process introduces air into the cookies, making them light and tender.

  4. Incorporate the egg and extracts. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, beating until well combined. The almond extract adds a tremendous depth of flavor to the cookies.

  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tougher cookies.

  6. Adjust the consistency. If the dough is too dry, add milk one tablespoon at a time until it reaches a soft yet manageable consistency. This will help achieve that tender bite everyone loves.

  7. Shape the cookies. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Spacing is important to prevent the cookies from merging into one another.

  8. Add some fun! Press each ball lightly to flatten it slightly, then dip the tops into a bowl of heart-shaped sprinkles to generously coat. This adds both color and a delightful crunch.

  9. Bake. Transfer the baking sheets to the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes. They are done when the edges are lightly golden, giving you that beautiful contrast in color.

  10. Cool the cookies. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. This step lets them firm up, making them easier to move.
