Directions
-
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined, ensuring each patty will be infused with tremendous flavor.
-
Form the mixture into patties, about half an inch thick. Try to make them uniform in size to ensure even cooking throughout.
-
Heat the olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. The oil should shimmer gently when it’s ready—this is the perfect time to add the patties.
-
Cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. You want them to develop a tremendous golden crust that adds to the overall flavor.
-
Once cooked, carefully remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate. This will allow the skillet to collect all those flavorful drippings necessary for the gravy.
-
In the same skillet, add the beef broth and bring it to a simmer, scraping any flavorful bits stuck to the bottom of the pan. This step enhances the gravy’s depth of flavor.
-
If you want a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch with a bit of water to create a slurry, and add it to the beef broth. Stir it well and let it cook until it thickens to your desired consistency.
-
Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow them to simmer for a few more minutes, ensuring they are heated through and infused with the tremendous flavors of the gravy.
-
Serve the hamburger steak with gravy over a bed of warm, cooked rice. The rice will soak up any excess gravy, ensuring every bite is as delicious as the last.
