Half-Hour Pudding

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step is crucial to ensure your pudding bakes evenly and develops a tremendous golden crust on top.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of all-purpose flour, and 4 teaspoons of baking powder. Stir together until the mixture is smooth and well-combined, without any lumps.

  3. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish. Make sure to spread it evenly, as this will help it bake uniformly. The batter should fill the dish generously but not to the brim.

  4. In a separate pot, combine the sauce ingredients: 2 cups of brown sugar and 4 cups of boiling water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely, creating a thin syrup.

  5. Carefully pour the hot sauce over the batter in the baking dish. Be gentle, as you want the sauce to sit on top without fully mixing in. This will create that delicious layering effect.

  6. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is set and golden. Keep an eye on it towards the end of baking, as ovens can vary. A tremendous scent will fill your kitchen, signaling that it’s almost ready.

  7. Serve warm for the best experience. You can enjoy this pudding simply on its own, or elevate it further with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
