Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Set aside about 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture for the topping. This will add a tremendous texture contrast atop the delicious apple filling.
-
Press the remaining crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a sturdy crust. Ensure it is compact for the best texture.
-
In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch until the apple slices are well coated.
-
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust in the baking pan, allowing the juices to mingle within the layers.
-
Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture evenly over the apples, ensuring every juicy bite will be encapsulated with that crisp topping.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. The smell will be absolutely tremendous during this process!
-
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. This ensures clean edges and a well-formed bar that holds together nicely.
