Directions
-
Preheat Your Oven
Begin your cooking journey by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This temperature is critical for achieving that bubbly, golden top we all adore. -
Cook the Macaroni
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook until just al dente—about 7-8 minutes. Drain the pasta, but don’t rinse it; you want that starch to help the cheese sauce cling. -
Make the Roux
Return the empty pot to the stove and melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, cooking for approximately 1 minute. This step develops a tremendous base for your cheese sauce. -
Add the Milk
Gradually add the milk while whisking constantly. Continue to cook the mixture until it thickens and begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes. Be patient; this is where the magic happens. -
Melt the Cheeses
Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the five cheeses—sharp cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan, blue cheese, and Gruyère—until completely melted and smooth, creating a luxurious cheese sauce. -
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the cooked macaroni to the creamy cheese sauce, mixing well to ensure every piece is coated in that tremendous, cheesy goodness. -
Prepare for Baking
If desired, transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for added texture if you like. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown. -
Serve and Enjoy
Once out of the oven, let the dish cool for a few minutes. Serve hot, allowing the gooey cheese to string delightfully from the spoon. Enjoy your creamy, cheesy delight!
