Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). This step is essential, as a hot oven leads to a tremendous crust that will perfectly embrace the hearty filling.
-
In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until they become softened and fragrant. This will add a tremendous depth of flavor to your meat mixture.
-
Add the ground beef and Italian sausage (if using) to the pan. Cook the mixture until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Stir in the pizza sauce and let it simmer for a few minutes. The sauce will become rich and infuse the meat with tremendous flavor.
-
In a deep-dish pie pan, roll out the pizza dough to form the base. Layer it generously with the meat and sauce mixture. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella on top, followed by the remaining mozzarella and the grated Parmesan.
-
Roll out another layer of pizza dough for the top crust and place it over the cheese. Cut several small slits in the dough to allow steam to escape while baking. This prevents a soggy crust—a tremendous party foul!
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy. The aroma that fills your kitchen will be simply irresistible.
-
Once baked, let your deep-dish pizza burger pie cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This resting time allows the flavors to settle, ensuring every slice is delightful.
