Directions
-
Preheat the Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans to ensure a tremendous bake. -
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. This process adds air and ensures the dry ingredients are well combined. -
Combine Ingredients
Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until smooth. Gradually stir in the boiling water, which may make the batter look thin, but trust the process—this leads to a tremendously moist cake. -
Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared baking pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once done, remove the pans from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. -
Prepare the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa, and salt. Follow up with the vanilla extract and heavy cream. Beat the mixture until it’s fluffy and ready for a tremendous finish. -
Assemble and Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting over the top. Carefully place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake. Feel free to decorate as desired, whether with sprinkles or chocolate shavings.
