Directions
-
Preheat the Oven: Begin your baking adventure by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to ensure your cake releases easily after baking.
-
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together your all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make sure these dry ingredients are well combined to achieve that tremendous flavor throughout the batter.
-
Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
-
Combine Mixtures: Gradually add your dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this could affect the texture.
-
Divide the Batter: Evenly divide your cake batter into the prepared pans. Use a spatula to spread the batter evenly to ensure both cakes bake uniformly.
-
Bake: Place the pans in your preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The tremendous aroma wafting through your kitchen will surely tempt you!
-
Prepare the Filling: While the cakes cool in their pans for about 10 minutes, prepare the filling. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, peanut butter, and powdered sugar until smooth. This creamy mixture is what elevates our cake into something truly extravagant.
-
Layer the Cakes: Once the cakes are cool, remove them from the pans. Place one layer on a serving plate, spread a generous amount of peanut butter filling between the layers, and then place the second layer on top.
-
Chill to Set: After stacking, spread any remaining peanut butter filling on top of the cake. Chill the entire cake in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Allowing it to set enhances the flavors and creates a firmer slice.
