Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper for easy release. Grease a 9-inch springform pan for the cheesecake layer too.
-
In a large bow,l mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Next, add your buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the mixture until smooth and fully combined. It’s important to slowly stir in the hot water at this stage to achieve a tremendous batter that’s both rich and pourable.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes. You’ll know they are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Once out of the oven, let the cakes cool in their pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
For the cheesecake layer, begin by beating the softened cream cheese and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Incorporate the orange zest and vanilla extract, mixing until well blended. Gradually add in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Pour this fantastic cheesecake batter into the prepared springform pan.
-
Bake the cheesecake layer in the oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until it is just set in the center. Once baked, allow it to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let it firm up.
-
While the cheesecake is chilling, prepare the chocolate ganache by heating the heavy cream in a small saucepan until it reaches a boil. Pour the hot cream over the semisweet chocolate chips in a bowl, allowing it to sit for a few minutes before stirring until the ganache is smooth and glossy.
-
Now, it’s time to assemble your tremendous layer cake! Place one of the chocolate cake layers on your serving plate. Top it with the cheesecake layer, ensuring it is centered. Gently place the second chocolate cake layer on top of the cheesecake. Finally, pour your luscious ganache over the entire cake, allowing it to drip down the sides for that beautiful, inviting look.
-
For the best flavor experience, refrigerate the completed cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the layers to meld beautifully together.
