Chocolate Chip Cookies

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your cookies bake evenly, giving them that tremendous golden color we all love.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. The goal here is to achieve a fluffy texture that traps air, leading to softer cookies.

  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Add the vanilla extract for a touch of warmth and depth in flavor.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. This step helps aerate the flour, ensuring that your cookies rise properly.

  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined. Be careful not to over-mix; a gentle folding will retain the tremendous texture we’re aiming for.

  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the dough. This is the fun part, as you can customize the amount or type of chocolate to suit your preference.

  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving enough space between each mound to allow for spreading. Spacing them out adequately ensures they bake evenly.

  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The center will look slightly underbaked, which is perfect to achieve that chewy consistency.

  9. Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This step helps them set properly and enhances the flavor.
