Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners. This initial step is tremendous, as it sets the stage for your baking adventure.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir well to ensure the dry ingredients are evenly mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk together the softened butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. This mixture should feel rich and creamy, embodying the tremendous flavor possibilities yet to come.
- Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined. Make sure there are no dry flour pockets—every morsel should be unified.
- Divide the batter evenly into the cupcake liners, filling each about ⅔ full. Feel confident in your measuring; this will give your cupcakes the perfect rise.
- Bake for about 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The aroma wafting through your kitchen at this stage will be nothing short of tremendous!
- Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack. Patience is key here; letting them cool ensures a perfect texture.
- Once cool, use a knife or apple corer to remove a small portion from the center of each cupcake. This step creates space for the rich caramel filling.
- Fill each hollow with caramel sauce, allowing the thick, sweet liquid to trickle into the moist cake.
- Drizzle additional caramel sauce on top of each cupcake before serving to give them a decadent finish.
