Chinese Pepper Steak

Directions

  1. Slice the beef steak into thin strips. A sharp knife will help make even, tender cuts. Aim for strips about 1/4 inch thick for faster cooking.

  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and ground ginger. This mixture will create a tremendous marinade that enhances the flavors of the beef.

  3. Marinate the beef strips in the mixture for 30 minutes. Letting the beef soak up these flavors will make a significant difference in the final taste of your dish.

  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Wait until the oil shimmers, which indicates it’s hot enough for frying.

  5. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned. Keep everything moving in the skillet for a tremendous 2-3 minutes to ensure even cooking and caramelization.

  6. Remove the beef and set aside. It’s crucial to give the beef time to rest; this will help retain its juices.

  7. In the same skillet, add the remaining oil and the red onion. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 2 minutes.

  8. Stir-fry until the onion is tender. This step brings out the sweetness in the onion, which balances the savory beef perfectly.

  9. Return the beef to the skillet and stir to mix all together. Here, the flavors meld beautifully as everything heats through.

  10. Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles. This dish is best enjoyed immediately, allowing the rich flavors and textures to shine.
