Chewy Monster Cookies

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take a moment to ensure your oven is properly heated to guarantee that your cookies bake evenly, achieving that perfect chewy texture.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. It’s crucial to achieve a light and fluffy mixture, as it will help incorporate air into your cookies, making them soft and tender.

  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. This addition is where the wonderful flavors begin to come together. The combination of eggs and vanilla enriches the dough, giving it a great flavor.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mixing these dry ingredients separately ensures that the baking soda is evenly distributed throughout your cookie base, which is key for that tremendous rise.

  5. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet mixture until just blended. Be careful not to overmix; we want to keep the cookies light and chewy, not tough.

  6. Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and M&M’s. This step is where the fun begins! The oats add a wholesome quality while the chocolate chips and M&M’s provide that sweet, melty burst in every mouthful.

  7. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Leave some space between each cookie as they will spread slightly during baking.

  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. You should keep an eye on them as baking times can vary, but removing them from the oven while they’re still a bit soft will ensure that they remain chewy.

  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. This step allows the cookies to firm up a bit, making them easier to move without falling apart.
