Cheesy Meatball Subs

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This initial step is essential for achieving that perfect meatball texture.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix everything until just combined. Form the mixture into meatballs of equal size for even cooking.

  3. Arrange the meatballs on a baking sheet. Bake them in your preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown. The tremendous aroma that fills your kitchen will be nearly impossible to resist.

  4. While the meatballs are baking, prepare your marinara sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the sauce. Once the meatballs are ready, gently add them to the sauce and let them simmer for a few minutes to soak up all that tremendous flavor.

  5. While the meatballs are warming in the sauce, cut the hoagie rolls open and lightly brush the interior with olive oil. This simple step helps to create a beautiful, crispy texture.

  6. Place the hoagie rolls under the broiler for just a few minutes until they are toasted. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning!

  7. Now, it’s time to assemble! Fill each toasted hoagie roll with several meatballs and spoon marinara sauce over the top.

  8. Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over each filled roll. To ensure that the cheese achieves that gooey, bubbly perfection, return the assembled subs to the oven for another 5-7 minutes.

  9. Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, remove the subs from the oven. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes, then serve them hot and enjoy!
