Cheesy Ground Beef and Rice Casserole

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

  2. Brown the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion together. Stir occasionally until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. This step is tremendous for building flavor. Be sure to drain any excess fat to keep your casserole balanced.

  3. Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until it becomes fragrant. The aroma will be tremendous and will bring an inviting warmth to your kitchen.

  4. Make the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk or beef broth, paprika, salt, and pepper. This sauce will add creaminess that binds all the ingredients together beautifully.

  5. Assemble: In the prepared baking dish, combine the cooked rice, beef and onion mixture, half of the shredded cheese, and the sauce. Mix these components well to ensure an even distribution of flavors throughout the casserole.

  6. Top and bake: Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly on top of the mixture. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. This step allows for a tremendous melding of flavors while keeping the casserole moist.

  7. Finish baking: Carefully remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. For a crispy cheese topping, you may also broil it for 2 minutes at the end, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.

  8. Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot. This wonderful casserole is sure to be a hit with family and friends, offering warmth and comfort in every bite.
