Caramel Cream Bliss

Directions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: Start by melting the granulated sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Do not stir the mixture, as this can cause the sugar to crystallize. Instead, allow it to cook until the sugar melts and takes on a dark amber color. This process will create a tremendous depth of flavor.

  2. Once the caramel has reached the desired color, reduce the heat and carefully add in the heavy cream. Be cautious, as this may cause splattering. Next, add the unsalted butter and stir the mixture until it is completely smooth and well combined. Set this delicious caramel aside to cool slightly.

  3. Cook the Cream: In a separate saucepan, combine the milk, cream, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. The mixture should thicken significantly, which may take around 8 to 10 minutes. Once it has thickened, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract for an additional burst of flavor, resulting in a tremendous creamy texture.

  4. Assemble: Begin the assembly process by pouring a small amount of the caramel into the bottom of serving bowls. This initial layer sets the stage for the creamy filling that is to follow. Spoon the thickened cream mixture over the caramel, filling the bowls evenly.

  5. For the final touch, drizzle a bit more of the cooled caramel over the top of each bowl. This final layer not only enhances the presentation but adds that irresistible sweetness that will have your guests coming back for seconds.

  6. Chill: Place the assembled bowls into the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. This chilling period is crucial, as it allows the flavors to meld beautifully. Just before serving, feel free to garnish with optional toppings such as crushed biscuit crumbs, chopped nuts, or grated chocolate for texture and flavor.
