Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan. This step is tremendously important as it helps the donuts to release easily after baking.
-
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. Use a whisk to ensure everything is well combined.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs to break them up. Then add in the buttermilk and melted butter, mixing until you achieve a smooth consistency.
-
Carefully combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Avoid overmixing, as this can lead to dense donuts.
-
Fill each cavity in the donut pan with the batter. You can use a piping bag for a neater fill or simply spoon it in. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Once baked, let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes. Afterward, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before dipping them in the chocolate glaze.
-
For the glaze, mix the confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
-
Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Set them aside to let the glaze set before serving.
