Butter Pecan Praline Poke Cake

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. This step is vital to ensure that your cake comes out perfectly and does not stick to the pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, mix until the batter is smooth and without lumps. Once done, pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. The smoothness of the batter is key to a tender cake texture.

  3. Bake according to package instructions for the cake mix, usually around 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on the oven towards the end for a tremendous rise!

  4. While the cake is baking, prepare the Butter-Pecan Sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the brown sugar and heavy cream while stirring continuously. Bring it to a boil and allow it to cook for about 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens. This sauce is the magic that will make your cake truly special.

  5. After removing the cake from the oven, allow it to cool for a few minutes. Use a skewer or fork to poke holes all over the top of the cake. This will allow the warm Butter-Pecan Sauce to seep into the cake, providing moisture and flavor.

  6. Pour the warm Butter-Pecan Sauce over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes. This step is crucial for infusing the cake with that incredible buttery, caramel-like flavor.

  7. Let the cake cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, top with whipped cream and sprinkle generously with chopped pecans before serving. The final presentation with the whipped cream adds a lovely visual contrast and a creamy texture.
