Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
-
In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. This combination will create a tremendous base for your loaf that will enhance the flavors of the added ingredients.
-
In another bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. The fluffiness is key to achieving a moist loaf. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream, creating a smooth mixture.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix as this can lead to a dense loaf. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts if you choose to use them for that extra crunch and texture.
-
Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon over this layer. Add the remaining batter on top, and swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect. This step adds visual appeal and flavor throughout the loaf.
-
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The aroma that fills your kitchen during baking will be tremendously rewarding and will have everyone eagerly waiting.
-
While the loaf cools, prepare the caramel glaze. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Then whisk in the brown sugar and heavy cream. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes and then stir in the vanilla extract. This will create a luxurious glaze that will complement your loaf beautifully.
-
Drizzle the warm caramel glaze over the loaf before serving. The warm glaze will absorb slightly into the loaf, making it even more delicious.
